Rex Fuller, 8, gets ready to go out on the dunes at Buttercup Sunday. The Fuller family of Phoenix has been coming to the dunes since 1996 and father James Fuller said they enjoy Buttercup since its more family-friendly.

More than a hundred family and friends gathered in Glamis Sunday to honor what would have been the 18th birthday of Carlos Don who died in 2007 at age 12 of pneumonia caused by an methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection. His parents said coming to the dunes was one of Carlos' favorite things to do.
